Secure your water future by hiking water recovery and reuse

Join Alfa Laval’s virtual event on November 4-5 to get expert direction on how to recover and reuse much more water in your food & beverage processing. By doing so, you will keep the water working in the local water cycles and build resilience into your business and may ultimately mitigate water risks and safeguard your business continuity.

Water specialists from across Alfa Laval are coming together to deliver an industry-leading virtual event for food and beverage producers, sharing their expert knowledge and showcasing how investment in water recovery and reuse now can build resilience and secure the future. With this, Alfa Laval demonstrates its readiness to support an industry-wide call for a target to secure 50% water reuse across all sectors.

Every year, 1.8 trillion cubic metres of water moved are used as the intrinsic water footprint of crops across the world in global supply chains. With the additional transportation of the physical content of water in foods, sauces, beverages or even as bottled water, developing recovery solutions can make significant impacts and offer major boosts to business costs and the environment. The hidden water moved either as the intrinsic production footprint of a product or as an actual physical ingredient distorts local and global water cycles and leave business and communities vulnerable to unpredictable and costly disruptions.

Alfa Laval is hosting its definitive event on water management in food and beverage production over two days, November 4 and 5 2025 with an option to join one of three time slots depending on time zone preferences. The event will be focusing on solutions to recover water from foods, sauces and beverages and share new insights into how to treat the recovered water from a variety of food industries for reuse in the relevant production set-ups.

“Water resilience isn’t optional, it’ s a strategic necessity,” says Eline Suijlen, Water Industry Manager at Alfa Laval. “The global trade of water exacerbates the water crisis and distorts both local and worldwide cycles. There is a clear challenge here for food and beverage producers and their efforts to build resilience into local water supplies to keep production running without unscheduled downtime – and if they are looking to expand production, they will have to ensure they stay on good terms with their local communities when it comes to environmental impacts.”

Building resilience into a production setup in relation to water is step-by-step process and almost never a quick-fix. So, investing in a timely manner means producers will better be able to navigate the unpredictability of climate change effects and mitigate their water risks. They will also gain a competitive advantage by reducing the volume of goods transported in global supply chains – which are already under pressure from a combination of climate changes and geopolitical turbulence.

“By turning products into concentrates, producers will be able to keep the water in the local system where it belongs,” says Eline Suijlen. “At the same time, they will reduce costs for transportation and slash carbon footprints by up to 80% in scope 3 downstream of the supply chain. At Alfa Laval, we are keen to share our expertise and knowledge to show how this can be delivered, while maintaining the full flavours and characteristics of the products.”

The event, which will see a keynote speech from Lars Dithmer, President Alfa Laval BU Food Systems, will also feature:

  • A deep dive into water recovery
  • An exploration in how to harness advanced technologies
  • Guidance on to enhancing operational resilience
  • Direction into gaining a competitive edge
  • Learnings from other real-life success stories
  • An expert panel who can elevate your water management strategy

On November 4, the event runs from 09:00 to 10:00 CET and from 15:00 to 16:00, while on November 5, it runs from 07:00 to 08:00 CET. Those interested in attending should book early by visiting the Alfa Laval website.
