An Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber system can be configured in three different operating arrangements: open-loop, closed-loop or a combination of these two, hybrid.
Ein Hybrid-Wäscher kann sowohl im Open-Loop- als auch im Closed-Loop-Modus betrieben werden. Im Open-Loop-Betrieb lassen sich Kosten einsparen. Es kann jedoch mühelos in den Closed-Loop-Modus geschalten werden, wenn örtliche Vorschriften dies erfordern.
Vorteil: Flexibler Einsatz je nach Anforderung
Nachteil: Höhere Kosten als ein Open-Loop-Scrubber
In diesem geschlossenen System wird das zur Reinigung verwendete Wasser mit einem alkalischen Zusatz versetzt und rezirkuliert. Wenn das Zirkulationswasser verschmutzt ist, wird es gereinigt, abgelassen und wieder aufgefüllt, um die Waschkapazität zu erhalten.
Vorteil: Der Closed-Loop-Scrubber kann jederzeit und überall verwendet werden
Nachteil: Seine Betriebskosten sind höher als die des Open-Loop-Systems oder des Hybrid-Wäschers
In diesem offenen System wird das Abgas mit Meerwasser gereinigt. Sobald das Wasser durch das PureSOx System gelaufen ist, wird es – unter Einhaltung der vorgeschriebenen Grenzwerte – wieder in das Meer eingeleitet.
Vorteil: Niedrigste Investitions- und Betriebskosten
Nachteil: Begrenzte Einsetzbarkeit im Falle niedriger Alkalität des Wassers oder örtlicher Vorschriften zur Abwassereinleitung

Alfa Laval is at the forefront of marine scrubber technology, thanks to hundreds of successful installations over the past decade. PureSOx is continuously being developed, both at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Centre and on board.
PureSOx applies Alfa Laval’s core technologies of fluid handling, heat transfer and separation. Centrifugal separators are especially important for a closed-loop or hybrid scrubber system, where it is needed to ensure compliant cleaning of the circulation water.
Much of the ongoing development of Alfa Laval PureSOx occurs at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Centre, a unique research facility located in Aalborg, Demark. The centre is a full-size machine room on land, with complete process lines integrated around a 2 MW marine diesel engine.
